Keeping Your Skin Youthful

Patients often ask me what to do the keep their skin youthful, particularly after they feel so youthful from balanced biochemical hormone treatment.

Various topical applications are basic to maintaining healthy skin. Retin A or retinoids, glycolic’s to remove dead skin, various antioxidants are also very important.

My favorite topical products are BioRenew made by University Compounding Pharmacy. These have a much higher concentration of these anti-aging ingredients found in them as opposed to over-the-counter products.

Dry skin is effectively treated by balancing your body with bioidentical hormones and also adding omega-3 oils.

Sagging skin is caused by a loss of elasticity and youthful body fat in your face. Facial sagging is effectively treated by injections of Sculptra or radio wave treatments with Exilis.

Sculptra utilizes lactic acid crystals injected under the skin which after six weeks grows new collagen to replace the lost fact enhance volume reduces sagging and last for 3 to 5 years.

Exilis utilizes radio waves with ultrasound to stimulate new collagen growth and tighten skin and thickened skin this to be used in the face in the neck or in any part of body.

Spouse reluctant to do anti-aging and bioidentical hormones

How to approach a reluctant spouse regarding the anti-aging treatments is a question I often get. For example, recently a sixty-year-old 6’4″ tall husband lost 110 pounds and now feels great at 215 pounds. He feels 15 years younger, filled with energy and enthusiasm for life. I treated him with a variety of natural bio identical hormones and a nutritional program.

The patient main concern on his recent visit was how to talk to his 58-year-old wife and get her to do a similar program as she was overweight, tired, irritable and not interested in sex. He tried to encourage her in the past, but she just wasn’t interested in taking hormones.

I encouraged him to say little, but often let her know how youthful he feels. Just saying the sentence: “you’ll feel 15 years younger” and wait for your wife to ask questions. And then give her short answers.

Invite her to come to a seminar I give monthly on anti-aging and bioidentical hormones influences. You may give her any of number of review of scientific articles I provide on the safety of topical bio identical hormone therapy.

Smile, be happy, and tell her often with short sentences how young you feel. She’ll come around.

Sincerely,

I lltold a husband who lost 110 pounds after seeing me and now feels great at 215 pounds.  he feels 15 years younger I told himto  say one sentance tohlis reluct wife: I expect she will feel 15 younger also.

Are vitamins good for you?

Often newspaper articles report that vitamins cause health problems. In these articles often the quality of items used is very poor. Recently, some articles came out indicating that using vitamin E as d-alpha tocopherol does not give health benefits. Some years ago a variety of similar reports came out regarding beta-carotene.

The original studies on vitamin E were done by doctors shoot, two brothers were Canadian doctors in the 1970s. They concentrated wheat germ oral got wonderful results in reducing heart disease and improving circulation. Vitamin companies started making d-alpha tocopherol which was the measure of activity of the wheat germ oral. However the d-alpha tocopherol did not give the same results as the wheat germ oil concentrate. I do not recommend d-alpha tocopherol except in very small amounts  i.e. below hundred international units, otherwise you need to use mixed tocopherols.

The same thing happened some years ago with beta-carotene. Vitamin A and D carotenoids are very helpful for a variety of medical problems boost immune system, helping infections, improving skin, helping vision. The beta-carotene was one that was easily measured in manufactured but is only one of over 75 carotenoids. When you carry you getting all the carotenoids. When you take beta-carotene it does not seem to give the same benefits as taking the mix carotenoids.

Vitamins and nutrients generally work in concert with each other. The scientific community likes to see one nutrient providing forays single result. It helps them in their scientific studies to show clear cause-and-effect. However the human body does not work in that way and studies consistently show that people have higher levels of various antioxidants seem to be much healthier and get less disease and illness. I encourage my patients to take a variety of nutrients and vitamins in concert with each other providing a balanced approach for health and prevention.

Testosterone Applications

I have consistently found in couples in which the man is using topical testosterone, the woman will be overdosed with testosterone.

In spite of careful hand-washing after application the man will spread testosterone to the woman through skin to skin touching sheets pillowcases towels etc.

Women only need 1/10 to 1/20 of the testosterone that a man uses. It takes very little to overdose a woman. With too much testosterone a woman will begin to develop acne then facial hair, then a deeper voice and then irritability and aggressiveness.

I do not believe it is a good idea for a man to use topical testosterone cream  when in an intimate relationship with a woman.  Good options for a man are pellets or injections.

Antidepressants and Bioidentical Hormones

I have many women who come to see me for bio identical hormone therapy while on SSRI antidepressants like Prozac and Lexapro.

It seems that women who have not been depressed prior to menopause and not on antidepressants prior to menopause will consistently be able to gradually get off their antidepressants. This occurs because estrogen, progesterone, testosterone ,DHEA ,Pregnenelone & thyroid are all necessary for normal brain functioning and for normal mood and feeling of well-being.

When I was in medical school in the 1970s I was taught that women got depressed when they stop menstruating because they were sad about not being up to have babies anymore. We now know that this is fallacious.

Bio identical hormone replacement therapy is critical to a woman’s brain health, Memory, mood, sense of enthusiasm and ability to think and solve problems.

GYN vs Bodylogicmd

A patient asked me last week, “What is the difference between an OB-GYN doctor and a BodylogicMD doctor?”

It is an interesting question because we both deal a lot with female hormones and female medical problems. However, OB-GYN doctor is mainly expert in female surgery. They dabble some in female hormones. A BodylogicMD doctor is a Board Certified Anti-Aging specialist. This involves many hundreds of hours of training in the latest research on medicine and bio-identical replacement. In addition, A BodylogicMD physician is expertly trained in replacing other hormones besides estrogen and progesterone such as thyroid, DHEA, cortisol, adrenal gland hormones, and testosterone.

Also, BodylogicMD doctors are expert in improving health through nutritional approaches.
